Rurrenabaque is located at the shores of the Beni River , where the Andean tropics end and the Amazonian jungle starts. It has an altitude of 229 meters above sea level. |

Several ethnic groups live in these areas. The Mosetenes, Tacnas Tsimanes, and Ese Ejja, native of the Amazonian zone, together with the Aymaras and Quechuas, coming from higher lands. The economical activities are leaded by tourism, benefiting 75% of the population, followed by agriculture and commerce.
Rurrenabaque is the gateway of the Madidi Park , recognized worldwide as one of the most important natural reserves of the planet. More than 1000 bird specie (85% of those existing in Bolivia and 11% of the world), 300 mammal species (44% of the mammal population of South America ), 200 reptile species and more than 6000 types of plants live together over the 1.895.750 hectares |
